Questions

Our project starts at $20,000 with a range up to over $1,000,000. The only exception to this is pre-existing clients who we already know and have knowledge of their properties. Our business model is set up with skilled crews who each have specialized combinations of tools, equipment, and trucks. This particular arrangement helps our clients who need specialized help on large or complex projects. We simply cannot compete with cheaper options on small projects that require less skill or specialized equipment. It would not be fair to either party to waste your time. (just like you wouldn’t want a surgeon to treat a papercut!)
We’re happy to provide our custom quality and service for the project management, building, and after-care of our outdoor spaces. Instead of beginning by selecting a design package, you’ll schedule a site-analysis. The site-analysis will provide the roadmap to construction and accurate estimating with less surprises and more enjoyable experience. Site-analysis packages begin at $250 and include a comprehensive site, architecture, and construction evaluation.
Over 98% of our project scopes are completed with our own staff. We have stone masons, horticulturalists, project managers, equipment operators, and a full support staff. On the rare occasion we need to manage a subcontractor, it will be for electricians, plumbers, or rare on-off services such as artists, supplemental contractors, or a client’s preferred provider.
Projects are scheduled once a contract is signed and retainer is received. Our crews are broken down by specialty and managed by a project manager.
No. Every single award winning project High Prairie has won has been designed in-house with our own design staff. While we compete against architects for our national awards, our degrees are based in horticultural design. There is value in both types of design education and they often inter-mix. Our talented designers provide all concepts and analysis for projects ranging from $10,000 to over $1,000,000 in-house. While we have skilled design staff, we are also happy to work with your preferred architect or designer.
While concrete serves as an excellent foundation for paver and brick overlay projects, we do not offer finished concrete to our clients. While we don’t judge someone who prefers concrete, we simply cannot promise concrete will age gracefully. Our brand promise focuses on the concept of lasting beauty. Unfortunately, concrete cracks, peels and fades with our Kansa City weather extremes. We provide paver, stone, and brick patios and driveways because they age beautifully and last longer if crafted to our standards.
Project timeline based on the season and scope. It is common for projects to start between 10 and 15 weeks after you’ve committed. For scopes that require products from Europe, the wait can be 16-20 weeks. Our advice is to start early and communicate with your designer. Openings can happen sooner on a rare occasion.
You’ll have your own project portal where you’ll see progress updates, communicate with your construction team, monitor financials, and schedule appointments.
It’s very common to create a master-plan for your project and then phase the construction Based on your priorities, budget, and scope. Phasing allows you to create a long-term plan without sacrificing quality or style. Enhancements can also often be added at a later date. Enhancements are things like:
  • lighting
  • Sound Systems
  • Accents or Art
  • Pergola or Shade Structure
Exterior projects often happen after an interior project or entire home build has been completed. Pricing volatility today means that those projects are sometimes going over the planned budgets, leaving less available for your outdoor spaces. Your best strategy is to create your ideal master plan for the outdoor spaces and then phase it as you need. (We can create the master plan for you!) Priorities for these types of situations will consider your goals, budget, and required scope of occupancy permitting.
Permitting is based upon your local and community ordinances. As licensed general contractors, High Prairie is happy to help obtain needed permits as part of a project management package. We also often assist with HOA approvals. The ever evolving local ordinances mean that permit requirements sometimes change. Our process is to verify requirements with your city and pursue any needed permitting at that time.
Our garden care division offers full service care when openings are available. We do have a waitlist in certain communities, so check on availability to ensure there are openings.

  1. Our garden care and landscape maintenance services are curated for comprehensive, high end residential properties in our service areas. Our minimum level of engagement includes total landscape bed maintenance on a 12 month rotation starting at $500 per month with a minimum visit frequency of bi-weekly. We do not offer one time visits for general clean-ups or just mowing because our crews are trained and educated to improve and elevate landscapes throughout the seasons. That cannot be achieved in one visit.
  2. Optional scope upgrades include full property care: Mowing, Lawn and Plant Healthcare Programs, Seasonal Color Rotations, Snow Removal, and The Options Listed Here: https://www.highprairieoutdoors.com/maintenance/
  1. Our comprehensive landscape maintenance packages range from $500 per month for twelve months all the way up to $11,000 per month for twelve months for multi-acre estates. The best way to plan properly is to visit with an account manager where your specific property details, landscape style, and desired scope will be discussed. Then, your account manager can provide a proposal based on your needs.
  2. Please note that a proposal does not guarantee an opening on our maintenance routes. Some areas currently have wait lists for our maintenance and fine gardening teams.
  1. Something unique about High Prairie team members is that we universally speak the same language in order to better communicate with each other and our clients. This does not discount any culture or language, but does provide comfort to clients who can easily communicate with any of our team members. Unlike competitors, every team member has passed a national background check to help ensure your security.
  1. Fine gardening requires a different skill set from “quick and dirty” landscape maintenance. It requires extensive horticultural knowledge, plant identification practices, and proper care practices to make an entire property thrive. Our fine gardening teams are comprised of team members with extensive and ongoing horticultural education. Many of our team members have degrees in horticulture and many of the others have years of valuable experience. The proof? Check out a High Prairie property!
  1. There are two key benefits to a 12 month contract: 1. You’re able to spread your investment out over twelve months instead of paying higher rates for 9 months. 2. Much of what sets a landscape up for optimum health is done in the off-season. To maximize the health and beauty of your landscape, things like structural pruning, water supplementation during winter droughts, bed redefining, drainage assessments, and many other tasks are scheduled during the “slower” months. Often the plants that die in spring and early summer are suffering from winter drought damage.
  1. Your account manager will help you determine what is best for you based on three key things: your desired level of detail, your garden style, and your budget goals.
  1. Schedules are based on route openings and crew availability. Our crews often have limited openings, so we have to work within the parameter of those specific openings. We will always take your preferred days into consideration, but always honor the prior commitments of any pre-existing contracts. (We won’t move someone else just to make a sale.) Once your schedule is set to a specific day, we keep that schedule unless a weather occurrence or special circumstance causes a delay.
  1. A. Your key point of communication will be your account manager. Beginning in fall of 2022, you’ll also have access to your own web portal where you can review visit logs/photos, scheduled visits, invoices, pending proposals, and communicate. It’s never been easier to see exactly what is happening on your property and communicate as you need.
